Bugs And Adventure Travel
If you are planning adventure travel in some backcountry, the one thing that is inevitability would be the presence of bugs. Yes, bugs and that too in unmanageably huge numbers. And if you have not planned for it, you are sure to face a lot of problems that could also be hazardous to your health. There are so many tropical diseases that are the direct result of these bugs and you would do well to protect yourself against it. We are going to have a look at some of the useful tips related to bugs and adventure travel. The first thing that you must understand is their habitat. The natural habitat of bugs is stagnant ponds or puddles of water or dense vegetation. So it goes without saying that if you are camping you need to avoid proximity with such places. One of the easiest and commonest things that one generally does to avoid bugs in your adventure travel is with clothing. Just wear light long sleeve cotton shirts and loose fitting cotton pullover pants. To take care of the exposed portion of your neck, you can tie a wet scarf around it. What it does is that it doesn’t expose any place for the bugs to attack. Smoke is a natural mosquito repellent. It works very well with avoiding these blood suckers. Try to make smoke with the help of water soaked twigs and leaves. If you are getting problems with flies, just wear a wide brimmed hat. Flies tend to buzz up and down and as such the wider the brim the farther the flies would be away from the face. And if that is not enough, you can get a head veil for yourself from any wilderness stores. It just tucks into your shirt and drape over your head and neck. Well, if you don’t like the picture you make in the mirror, keep patience. It would prove quite handy against an all out attack by mosquitoes. You mighty also make use of citronella sticks or citronella candles. It is perhaps one of the best solutions for repelling bugs. And the best thing about it is that you don’t need much of that. You just need to burn a single one in your tent and sleep peacefully. If you are having problems with ticks, you can use garlic in your diet. In addition to that you can use sulfur to powder the tops of socks, sleeve openings of shirts and pants and around your waistband. That works quite well. There are many who make use of insect repellents. It really works quite effectively against most of the insects (and if that does not work, may god help you!). The main problem with insect repellents is that it might also repel some of the wildlife you are interested in. If you are not too much bothered about your looks, you might also try mud packs. If you don’t have insect repellents with you and you need to save yourself, mud packs on the exposed areas of your body might prove quite effective. You just need to take some basic precautions and you can effectively keep bugs at bay. | ||||||||||||||
